We are lucky to have a private dining chef here in Sedbergh, so let me introduce you to Laura Marschall.

Laura is an international private chef who has worked in Hong Kong, China, Japan, Malaysia, Vietnam, India, Israel, Germany, Canada and the UK. So it is no surprise she cooks authentic, regional Indian – Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Hyderabad, Gujarat and Goa, Persian, the numbing and spicy cuisines of Sichuan and Hunan in China, Japanese Farmhouse and Southeast Asian cuisines – Vietnam, Thai, Malaysian. Wow hey!

To quote Laura;
“I specialise in, what I call, the ‘Cuisines of Hospitality’, by which I mean, preparation-intense, multi-dish, generous, amazingly spiced dinners for groups of people who want to enjoy each others’ company as much as the food.”

Laura has worked as a food consultant, developing vegan dishes and menus and so love to cater to vegans and vegetarians. She is also a qualified Oenologist (wine growing and making) and Sommelier so is able to help customers choose wines to complement the food.

To further add to this, Laura also offers handmade spice blends and recipes, if people want to create deliciously spiced dishes themselves and can also teach cookery classes to individuals, or groups.

This all sounds amazing doesn’t it and when you also learn Laura is a mum who can be found at the edge of a rugby pitch supporting her sons, is studying for a degree in German, is a certified crystal healer and loves to sew and do quilting and embroidery, you can start to understand she is a lady who is passionate about so much. I was also excited to hear about Laura is planning a food tour through Georgia in September. Can’t wait to see her social media posts on that.

Laura can offer weekday and weekends for your chef requirements and lives in Sedbergh so will not require accommodation here.

We will finish off here with a quote from Laura about her career;

“The food I produce is a total labour of love. All my knowledge and experience goes into creating authentic menus. I roast and grind every whole spice for my spice mixes and never use pre-made powders. I only use local meat. At the start of every meal I give a speech about the culture and the cuisine of the meal and people tell me they get a lot out of understanding the background and provenance of the food.”
