When we said we had The Fascia Retreat booked in here at St Marks Stays, most people said they had heard the term being used a lot lately, but often asked What is Fascia?
Thanks to the ladies behind The Fascia Retreat, we can bring you a little insight and show you just how much they packed in to a few days here in the gorgeous sunshine of early September.
So let’s get to the question, “What is Fascia?”
Fascia is a connective tissue that invests and holds every organ, blood vessel, bone, nerve fibre and muscle in place and has millions of sensory receptors that make it our largest sensory organ. When stressed, it tightens up, becomes matted and restricts body wide communication and if it dries up and crystalises, it can limit mobility and cause pain. Because of our whole-body fascial system, pain or immobility in one area of your body may be because of an injury or restriction in another.
The Fascia Retreat
Tracey, Yvonne, Rachael, Ruth and Mary are the aces behind this unique fascia retreat here in the UK and when you see them walking barefoot around the house and garden with limitless energy and enthusiasm, you begin to understand there must be something in what they are sharing in their teachings. This retreat was full of amazing positivity, laughter, good food and really insightful knowledge. It was not just aimed at young athletes, but tailored to all ages and fitness and having dipped in and out of the retreat to take some photos, I feel I want to book on to their next one.
The guests used jelly worm sweets to understand fascia fibres and stretching, they had demonstrations on fermenting for gut health, made room sprays with aromatherapy oils and spent a lot of time in the nature of our garden. The food looked incredible, with everything from turmeric lattes to hand caught fish that was smoked here on the premises. They danced, they did Fascia Yoga and they spent their time out here exploring all the senses, of sight, taste, smell, touch and sound.
