As the sun appears more, don’t you just want to be outside, taking life ‘At Nature’s Pace’? Well you can do just that if you arrange to hang out with Ruth, who runs Nature Connectedness Adventures via her company called, ‘At Nature’s Pace’.
We first met Ruth in our garden as she filled the guests with wonder during The Fascia Retreat. Since then, we have seen her business grow as more people book on to her activities as they seek out the outdoor world and a better connection to nature.
At Nature’s Pace, Ruth creates nature connectedness adventures to reignite your curiosity, wonder and awe at the natural world and lead you – and nature – to health and happiness. Reconnecting, rewilding and restoring you through forest bathing, wild swimming, guided wild and well hikes and swim/hikes, mindfulness and meditation walks, family discovery sessions, woodland retreats and well-being escapes.
Sessions you can book, can take anything from a meditation walk, or forest bathing of about 3 hours, all the way up to a full day of hiking and wild swimming. A general level of mobility is required due to the nature of the activities and there are varying grades of fitness required depending on the activity. But no-one will ever get left behind! Of course, all activities are outdoors, so you do need to account for Cumbrian weather and embrace the experience be it sunshine, or rain.
In her sessions, Ruth feels nature connectedness means more than just spending time in nature. It’s a way of reconnecting with the natural world through all of our senses, noticing and observing, being curious and questioning, tuning in to your emotions, recognising feelings of sameness, affinity, relatedness, belonging, interconnectedness and wholeness. And it’s fun! Remember how it felt going out to play as a child? Well playing out is for adults too! So you can expect to feel profoundly restored, peaceful, joyous, inspired and filled with awe and wonder and a sense of satisfaction.
Imagine if your life could have more happiness, great health, less stress and anxiety, a calmer, more resilient mind and a stronger body, more meaning, purpose and satisfaction, a child-like sense of wonder and fun, senses alive to land and sky, water and woods and wildlife. Ruth whole heartedly knows, nature connectedness can give you all this and more. The incredible health benefits of developing a deeper connection to the natural world are scientifically proven to improve mental well-being and physical health including boosting your immune system, lowering blood pressures, reducing stress and anxiety, improving your mood and so much more.
Ruth is a self confessed ‘Biophiliac’, which is a Greek-derived word meaning ‘love of life or living systems’. Being outside in nature, doing and breathing and seeing, makes her feel good, in mind and body and spirit. The outdoors is her home and is where most of her hobbies take place and the place where she feels she thrives.
Having worked in outdoor and environmental education, conservation and as a Mountain Leader for 15 years Ruth says she never tires of seeing the joyous expressions on people’s faces from having experienced the natural therapy that comes from spending time deeply immersed in nature, switched off from the busyness, worries and distractions of everyday life.
“If I feel I have given them tools take nature connectedness back into their daily lives to continue to benefit their health and well-being then I’m a happy bunny.”
We asked Ruth if anyone was unsure if to get in touch with her about booking one of her activities, what would be her words of wisdom and she came back with these wonderful words of wisdom …
“I’m going to choose a quote from Anne Frank that I use on my website – “How wonderful it is that nobody need wait a single moment before starting to improve the world [and ourselves!].”
I really can’t stress enough how nature connectedness can profoundly improve your life and well-being for the better. We have one life. Let’s live it. Just give it go.”
