Are you one of the many out there feeling a little sad because the schools have gone back in and the summer holidays are at an end? Well here are our top tips for Keeping That Summer Holiday Feeling alive.

The point of starting St Marks was to live a life that is not about escaping for only a few weeks of the year on holiday, but to live life in a way that gives you that happy, holiday feeling all the time. Having seen our guests enjoy their summer, here is what we have learned along the way and hence our tips on keeping the summer holiday feeling around much more.

Mooching
In lengthier holiday time, you often just mooch around. Mooch around the holiday let, the shops, the garden and it doesn’t feel like time wasted does it? So take 10 minutes out of your lunch break to just wander and daydream.

Food
Tasted something amazing on holiday? Then search out a recipe for it and recreate it at home. Have a Mexican evening if that’s where you went. Learn to make pasta like an Italian. Have something different for breakfast at the weekend. Don’t just settle in to the weekly meal plan straight away.

Drink
Take Friday night to make cocktails and mocktails with all the trimmings and fancy glasses. No plastic straws though hey, as we want the environment to be all the better for less disposable plastics don’t we.

Music
There is always a holiday tune, so get that soundtrack on your phone, or iPod and dance your way round the supermarket shop, or make the kids howl with laughter as you sing karaoke style on the home school run with the music blasting.

Fresh Air
Just get out there no matter what the weather, because it is what you would have done on holiday. Get to the coast. Climb that hill. Even just visit a new park in your city to explore new things like you would in a new holiday destination.

Friends
Stop putting it off because life’s too busy and make time to be with friends throughout the year and not just in the summer. Be the person who rallies everyone together, even if it is just for one drink, but means you can meet more regularly. We all know laughing with friends is the best feeling.

Family
Now some of you may be ecstatic that the kids have gone back to school, but if you think about it, there are times when being together as a family is what makes your life great. Plan a fun list which means you will try to tick off those things as the weeks go by and hopefully you’ll find that time together as a family becomes more about fun and less about the squabbling over the remote, or iPad.

Ditch the Guilt
Why on holiday do we feel like we can sit and read, or take a long walk, but the minute the plane lands we feel guilty if we are not running around at a hundred miles an hour, updating social media and being the best we can be. Well maybe being the best means a more rounded person, so ditch the guilt and enjoy some time to do what you actually like to do.
